UK passport applications delayed by a backlog caused by the coronavirus pandemic will be expedited if people are due to go on holiday within two weeks, however applications made for immigration purposes will not be subject to the expediaton and join a massive queue of more than 400,000 documents still waiting to be processed.

The delays have been caused in the main, by the coronavirus lockdown, however the passport office do recognise the "urgent and compassionate criteria" so if your documents are essential, we may be able to apply on your behalf using this basis.  Overseas applicants and UK applicants who have needed to apply to emergency travel documents will be able to claim refunds.

The Home Office are planning to take on additional staff to deal with the backlog however you can expect substantial delays for the present time.
